Pitch Reports

The teams batting first have won the two matches on this ground so far this season. On April 28, RR were mighty impressive against CSK, winning easily by 32 runs thanks to their total of 202. Jaiswal hit 77 (43) and Jurel performed with 34 (15).

The captain who wins the toss may choose to bat first given dew has not been a huge issue at Jaipur. A hot and mostly clear evening is forecast.

Probable Playing XI

RR

Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Devdutt Padikkal, Sanju Samson, Shimron Hetmyer, Dhruv Jurel, D Ferreira , R Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Trent Boult, Sandeep Sharma

GT

Wriddihman Saha, Shubman Gill, Vijay Shankar/S Sudarshan , Hardik Pandya, David Miller, Abhinav Manohar, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmed, Joshua Little, Mohammed Shami

Rajasthan Royals

Jos Buttler is seeking a big knock. In four innings against GT, Buttler has struck 182 runs at an average of 45.50 and strike rate of 151.67.

Buttler also has an excellent record at this ground: 12 inns, 501 runs, avg. 50.10, SR 137.26.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is in magnificent touch. He is coming off a superb 124* against the MI – one of the great IPL knocks by a young player.

Sanju Samson is also in need of a lift. He smashed 60 off 32 in a vital knock against GT earlier this season, where he took the great Rashid Khan apart.

Overall in the IPL, Samson has scored 109 off 92 against Rashid (one dismissal).

Trent Boult has taken at least one wicket in all but one of his matches so far in IPL 2023. He has largely kept Shubman Gill quiet in the IPL (46 balls, 47 runs, one dismissal) and has dismissed Wriddhiman Saha three times in 22 balls (22 runs).

R Ashwin has taken ten wickets in nine matches on this ground at an economy of 7.54 and strike rate of 16.80. However, the offspinner is wicketless in four innings so far against the Titans.

Gujarat Titans

Shubman Gill has scored 138 runs in four innings against RR (avg. 46.00, SR 123.21).

If Gill gets through the powerplay, watch out. He has excellent numbers against Ashwin (58 balls, 95 runs, no dismissals) and has been decent against Chahal (35 balls, 38 runs, one dismissal).

Hardik Pandya has both the most runs (189) and wickets (6) in RR-GT matches. In fact, Pandya averages 94.50 and strikes at 147.66 with the bat against RR since the start of 2022.

Expect Hardik to test Jaiswal with hard lengths in the powerplay. The GT captain dismissed the RR opener earlier this season.

David Miller has smashed 177 runs at an average of 177.00 and strike rate of 175.25 against RR.

Miller has never been dismissed by Boult in T20s (25 balls, 34 runs). Also, he has scored 151 off 108 balls in all T20s against Ashwin (three dismissals) and 96 off 52 against Chahal (three dismissals).

Mohammed Shami was out of this world in the powerplay against DC. He dismissed Jos Buttler for a duck earlier this season – watch out for the nip-backer into Buttler early on.

Rashid Khan has dominated Jos Buttler in T20 cricket. In 72 deliveries, the legspinner has conceded just 50 runs and dismissed the Englishman four times.

Other Stats and Facts

Head-to-head: Matches 4, RR 1, GT 3.

RR (179/7) beat GT (177/7) by three wickets in a thriller earlier this season.

Shimron Hetmyer has scored 2, 3, 8 and 8 in his past four knocks. His last influential innings was a matchwinning effort (56* off 25 balls) against Gujarat Titans.

David Miller when batting second in the IPL since the start of 2022: 13 inns, 400 runs, avg. 133.3, SR 150.9.

Yuzvendra Chahal has taken just one wicket in his past four matches in IPL 2023.

Royals have been the quickest scoring team (run rate of 9.6) in the powerplay this IPL but that's alright. Titans have the most economical bowling unit (7.3 run rate) in the powerplay this IPL.

Both these teams have been best in class in other key metrics as well like scoring rate at the death: Titans on top (12) followed by Royals (11.7) and spin strength: Titans on top (15.5 balls per wicket) followed by Royals (16.2)

Jaiswal is yet to be dismissed by a spinner in this season. He has faced 93 balls and hit 139 runs, including seven of his 18 sixes. But don't hit him with pace just for the sake of it because he hits them right back. His balls per boundary ratio against the quicks is 3.1. If he is able to score a minimum of 25 in his next innings, he will become the third-quickest Indian to 1000 IPL runs behind Sachin Tendulkar (31) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (31)

Shivam Mavi has knocked Sanju Samson over five times in 25 deliveries for 34 runs in T20 cricket. Could Titans consider using him as a super specialist, like how
